Call for papers: The Modern City: Heritage, Technologies, Representations International conference

Dear colleagues,
The team of the project “Growing but not getting old: semantic and 3D technologies for the history of streets and buildings in Sofia” with a lead organization IBCT-BAS and funded by the Bulgarian Scientific Research Fund in 2024, invites you to participate in a conference on the topic "The Modern City: Heritage, Technologies, Representations".


The conference aims to bring together researchers and specialists to reexamine and discuss the following fields and their possible intersections: urban history from mid-19th century to the mid-20th century, digital humanities and the urban environment, the possibilities of modern technologies for presenting the urban past.
Papers with a comparative and/or interdisciplinary approach are encouraged.
The thematic fields of the conference include, but are not limited to, the following research areas:
- topography and space;
- architecture and architectural influences;
- continuity and change of the urban environment;
- communities and memory, places of memory;
- images and depictions;
- globalization and transfers of ideas, knowledge, practices;
- semantic and linguistic technologies in the study of urban history;
- presentation of the ancient and medieval city in contemporary urban environment;
- 3D technologies and reconstructions of elements of the urban landscape;
- technological applications for socialization of the cultural and historical heritage in an urban environment.
Application for participation in the conference could be sent by July 2, 2025 to the following email: projectsofia2025@gmail.com . The applications should include the following details:
- name and surname of the author(s) and email(s)
- institutional affiliation
- topic of the proposed paper
- abstract (maximum 300 words).
You will receive confirmation of acceptance of the application by July 15, 2025.
No participation fee is required for participation in the conference.
The official languages of the conference are Bulgarian and English.
After the conference, participants will be invited to submit completed articles, and following anonymous reviews, the approved texts will be published in a specialized peer-reviewed publication.

 

The project Growing but not getting old: semantic and 3D technologies for the history of streets and buildings in Sofia is funded by the Bulgarian Scientific Research Fund in 2024 with contract number КП-06-Н90/2 from 10.12.2024.
