On April 24, 2025 (Thursday) at 6:00 p.m., a round table on the topic "Perspectives for the Research and Presentation of Sofia's Past" will be held in the Retro Café at the Regional History Museum - Sofia.
The event is organized within the framework of the project "Growing but not getting old: semantic and 3D technologies for the history of streets and buildings in Sofia" and aims to bring together representatives of the civil sector, experts and participants in the research and promotion of the cultural heritage of the Bulgarian capital city. The main focus of the discussion will be the growing interest in the history of Sofia in recent years - both from specialists and the increasingly active urban community. The possibilities for a modern interdisciplinary presentation of the city's past through visual and digital means, as well as the challenges associated with access to archival and photographic resources, will be examined.
Among the topics that will be discussed are:
• the reasons for the increased public interest in the historical topography and cultural memory of Sofia;
• the role of visual evidence (photographs, archival documents, digital reconstructions) in reconstructing the city's past;
• the importance of personal initiative, collecting activities and civic projects in preserving cultural memory;
• practices and models from other European capitals that can be applied in the Bulgarian context;
• the possibilities for engaging different audiences – pupils, students, guests of the city – through various formats of historical presentation.
The roundtable will feature established names from various fields: historians, researchers, urbanists, architects, public figures and representatives of online initiatives dedicated to Sofia's history.
